Yellow Rejection Slip

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Realms of Fantasy sent me a Yellow Form of Promise (YFOP) whilst I was at Odyssey, versus a Blue Form of Death (BFOD).  It even had a handwritten note on it, the very first time I’ve managed to get Realms of Fantasy to crack and say something personal.  This was extremely exciting for me (as you can imagine, since I’ve been submitting to them for over a year and a half.)  Here’s what the form portion of the YFOP said:

“Dear Author, Thank you very much for letting us see your work.  While this partiuclar story does not suit our needs at this time, your work shows a great deal of promise, and we’d very much like to see more from you.

Thanks again for thinking of Realms of Fantasy, and we look forward to hearing from you again.

Sincerely, Shawna McCarthy, Editor.”

And then the handwritten note on the bottom said:

“Sara, Thanks for letting me see this.  There’s some nice writing here, but as things stand now we’re somewhat heavy on inventory and I’ve been instructed to be even pickier than usual, so I’m afraid I’ll have to pass.  Good luck w/this.

Douglas Cohen, Assistant Editor”

ODYSSEY GRADUATE!!!!!!!!!

HELL YES, BABY!  :)   :)

After averaging about 4 1/2 hours of sleep a night for 6 weeks, I can finally crash.  Then, after I’ve given my braincells a chance to regroup, I’m going to Lake Creek to write a fantasy novel for Don to represent.  After that, I’ll do my damndest to get Outer Bounds finished, and after that maybe a thriller or a romance.  Oh, and I’ve gotta write a short story with a causal chain and dedicate it to Jeanne Cavelos for opening my eyes to the beauty of a good plot.  And also I’ve gotta find something for about 12 different short story markets, not to mention write stories for Writers of the Future and the Haunted Legends anthology, plus start getting story submissions in the mail again and revise my Odyssey stories to the point where I can look at them without puking.  Maybe I’ll find time to eat and sleep in there, too.

But first, a nap.
